You and Me & Chasing Little G

Our Love Story

Celebrating 1 Year |Part 1

Sabra GilbertComment
I seriously can't beleive that Simeon and I are just getting back from our vacation in honor of our 1st Anniversery! The fact that this year has flown by so fast just astounds me. I know everyone talks about how the time will just start flying faster and faster and that just terrifies me. I really feel like yesterday was my wedding day and now we've already celebrated past a whole year and its insanely crazy.

NOt only did Simeon and I celebrate our first wedding anniversery but we were able to celebrate our five year dating anniversery as well. Guys! I feel like we must be getting old cause thats pretty close to a fourth of my entire life. THAT"S A LONG TIME!!!  It's been a crazy wonderful trip and I've loved it.

So anyway. . . Back to the trip! We spent 3 nights and 4 days in Minneapolis, MN! Now, that probably sounds super lame. It isn't a super crazy destination BUT OMG IT WAS WONDERFUL!!!

So lets start on May 17th. Our 1st ever wedding anniversery!! NOw it started a little lame because we woke up at my parents house, but at least we woke up in each others arms. There are many people who don't get that priviledge. We packed everything up and started getting ready for the road. We said our goodbyes and started heading back to Brookings in our seperate cars. (thats another story) So we decided to stop and get gas at this one gas station that we usually stop at cause it has nice low prices. As soon as I pulled up behind a car to wait, I noticed that soemthing wasn't right.

(In case I havne't explained, Roy is our new 2001 Dodge Durango. THe car that we knew would be taking us where ever we are going to move to)

So I paniced. Turned the car off. Jumped out the door and ran to SImeon in Penny Margret (my 1989 Park Avenue that was supposed to be a temporary drive around the town car that we recently got fixed enought htat we can drive it out of town!) and screamed that the car is smoking and he needed to come over right now!!!

He got a paniced look on his face and got to work doing his manly thang.

Simeon popped the hood and figured out what was wrong. We pushed the car to the side and Simeon ran to get the part and we were actually back on the road within an hour or so. It was insanely sexy!! :P

We were finally on our way home and got there and packed up and sang our heads off all the way to Minneapolis.

Now Simeon got This || close to getting his butt kicked on the way when we saw a car that said Miss Rodeo South Dakota and Simeon decided to yell that we needed to follow it. :/ ON OUR ANNIVERSERY!! I even told Trent (Simeon's bestie/bestman) about it and Trent scolded Simeon! But we got passed it because I know that Simeon was just kidding and being a pain in the butt like he usually is.

Other than that. . .
The first night was just filled with enjoying each other and reminicing on the past year. And making plans for our trip. It was an awesome night!

I'll be sharing more. But I'm still getting all used to being back to town and getting stuff done! Just Warning, I didn't take any nice pictures on my nice camera. . . so It will be all IPhone pictures! So bare with me while I figure out how to do all that stuff with my phone! :D

Our First Date

Sabra Gilbert1 Comment

Our first date was planned out months ahead. . . Does that sound weird? Well, it shouldn't. . . since it was Prom. Or was my school just weird in that dates were picked by January, groups of people going together were usually decided by February, with the limo booked by March? Simeon and I were going as just friends. Niether one of us were aware that the other actually liked them (Actually that  might be a lie, Simeon was probably able to tell way before I knew that there was something up). We fought through most of that time to. Not like super hard core fighting, but disaggreements that escalated because they were actually based on something that neither one of us knew what we were actually fighting about.

Simeon wasn't mad that I wouldn't let him wear a kilt to prom, he was mad that I hadn't read his mind that he was going to ask me to Prom and let a friend set me up with a guy from another school instead. Said guy ended up not being able to go so Simeon then asked me, but was still upset about not being my "first choice".

I (on top of just not wanting Simeon to wear a kilt) was upset about the fact that Simeon was self proclaimed never going to date in college. Which meant (I thought) that the whole me being head over heels for him was completely crazy and really annoying that I couldn't get over it.

But that's not the point. By the time we got to prom day came around, we were doing a lot better. We still hadn't explained the real problems to each other yet. But it was no longer a focal point as we all got excited and busy with planning and counting down the days until the awesome night.

The whole night was awesome. We had a limo and the driver totally let us do a Chinese fire drill in the middle of our hometown. We took tons of pictures and danced the night away.

By the end of the night, I knew I was screwed. I was head over heels for this guy that spent the night twirling me on the dance floor. It had felt like his eyes were only on me and I was giddy over his silly dance moves.

Wow, to think that this was all over 4 years ago now. :) We were so young.

Why We Work

Sabra Gilbert1 Comment
We work because we are both incredibly nerdy. As in plant ourselves in front of the computer and watch Doctor Who, League of Legends, or Avatar. All Day. Any Day.

We work because neither of us can focus on something for too long in seriousness. We have to goof off or make faces at each other or something.

We work because we understand when the other needs to be lazy and then be super nice and take care of stuff for them.

We work because we literally think the exact same thing sometimes. Example: (me thinking in my head) 'hmmm if we are almost done with New Doctor Who, then we should watch Classic Doctor Who next!' (Simeon out loud) "Wanna watch Classic Doctor Who after we are done with this season?"

We work because cuddles are the best in both of our opinions.

We work because I can cook an awesome dinner, and he can fix my car.

We work because we both have the same alarm tone and both dispise the sound of it going off.

We work because we love to surprise each other.

We work because we are passionate. About each other and things that are in our lives.

We work because we learn and grow in our faith together.

We work because Simeon remebers everything that I love and surprises me with it.

We work because I make him brownies on rough days.

We work because he can explain physics to me and I can educate him on horses.

We work because we are each others best friend.

Our Love Story Part 2

To be honest, most of our relationship Sophomore year was nonexistent  I don't remember really paying attention to Simeon all that much. He wasn't the focus of my attention and I wasn't his. We had fun hanging out in our big groups and towards the very end of Sophomore year, right before I went to my dad's is actually the first time I can recall hanging out with Simeon when Trent wasn't there.

That was a fun, yet slightly awkward night roaming the railroad tracks and basically keeping me up all night having as much fun as possible with three of my friends, including Simeon, It was right before I was going to leave for my dad's all summer, and they kept me up until an hour before the car was to leave my driveway at 5 AM in the morning. My dad lived 8 hours away.

Junior year was when everything changed.

We were friends now. We hung out. I was getting over my whole trent phase (sorry buddy).

And then LifeLight happened.

Simeon's parents rented out a camping site at LifeLight for all of Simeon's friends to camp out and be able to stay there all weekend without driving back and forth. Girls got the camper and the boys got the tent. It was a great weekend of Christian music and laughing with friends. It was also the weekend that I realized I could easily start to like this guy.

I had seen the goofy, always good for a laugh, flirty Simeon, but had never really seen anything more. Well this weekend I was trying to rock out and headbang, while also recovering from an out of place rib that had recently been popped back into place. This meant a lot of weird looking streatches and a lot of pain medication to hold off the stabbing pain of being pushed in mob pit style crowds and jumping. During a great Family Force Five concert, Simeon was my body guard. He made sure that no one josseled me too much and that I never got pushed around. He also was the kind gentleman who decided that he would go back to the camp site with me when it was time to ice my side again after the concert. So we laid on the blow up mattress in the open tent, just talking for a while and somehow, fell asleep.

This was when I started to realize that I slightly liked this guy. I had to be crazy, this was the self proclaimed "I don't date in high school" guy and I obviously had some problems if I was going to make him my next crush.

Wedding Wednesday: The Engagement Story

Sabra Gilbert1 Comment

So apparently I'm a terrible blogger!
I haven't even shared my engagement story yet!

So to begin, let's take you back to the morning of August 9th, 2013.

I was scrambling around the house running late as usual. Simeon knocked on my apartment door and I went running with my hair half done and a no make-up face. And there he was with a giant smile and my favorite flower, lilies.

(Flowers, though they didn't have the ring in them when I got it)

I excitedly put them in water and finished running around my apartment getting ready for our big date today. A day at the Sioux Empire fair that would lead to a Hunter Hayes concert that I had been begging to go to for months!

We finally arrived at the Sioux Empire fair around 11 o'clock in the morning. Where we then spent the rest of the day watching horses, and visiting the petting zoo. We wandered around almost every single booth I'm pretty sure. We watched some acrobatic dogs and chowed on corndogs.

Around 4 o'clock, I decided that it was time to jump in line for Hunter Hayes (who wouldn't even hit the stage until 8 PM). We weren't even close to the beginning of the line at this point! We were already hundreds of people behind. So Simeon and I camped out in line on the hard ground playing war for about an hour before the line started to slowly move. We talked with people around us and made some friends. Soon the line was moving fast as they finally let people start to go into the stadium.

I was like a little kid on Christmas. Jumping up and racing when the line moved. I was so excited for the night. I even commented on how memorable these next 24 hours would be. I had already had a wonderful day with Simeon, we were about to see Hunter Hayes, and we were leaving to see my Grandparents in Colorado around 2 in the morning. Simeon just laughed at me.

We finally were standing in front of the stage (About 30 feet back but STILL!). Going through my, "I"m a photographer" stage, I tried to take a ton of super artsy photos, with Simeon protecting me from the bunch of randomly shirtless boys that appeared around us and all the girls trying to push us back. Even though it was really hot out, I enjoyed getting to cuddle with Simeon (we also had no other choice since it was soo packed!) People were insanely rambunctious though! By the time the concert started, I had already been given a bad headache since someone thought it was a great idea to throw a water bottle up in the air with ice in it.

Finally, the concert started and I was soo excited. Hunter Hayes is great in concert and makes THE funniest faces while singing and playing his guitar. I was having a blast with Simeon's arms around me singing along.

Soon the concert was over way too fast and Simeon and I were racing the crowds to try to get out before the rush. We were both starving so we went to our favorite place in Sioux Falls, Frying Pan! We enjoyed goofing off and cuddling and just going on and on about what a wonderful day it had been so far.

Next, we decided to head off to The Falls as we had planned to sit in one of our favorite places.

When we got there, SImeon told me to close my eyes and not turn around. Well, I suck at surprises and totally didn't listen and just had to peak at what he was getting out of the trunk.

He had wine glasses and sparkling grape juice!
Along with a blanket to cuddle up on.

We enjoyed some time sipping our sparkling grape juice and talking about all the different memories that had occurred in this area. We had taken our first Prom pictures here, before we were even dating. We had just a few months earlier had our three year anniversery picnic in this exact same spot.

After we were done with our glasses, we decided to look at the stars for a little bit. I put my head on Simeon's stomach and all I could hear was this giant pounding sound. I laughed and made a comment to which Simeon told me he wasn't feeling too well. So I got all motherly and made him sit up and asked if he wanted to go or anything.

He told me no. So we sat for a little bit longer when Simeon started up his new game that had started in the last month.

"Will you marry me?"

"No, you don't have a ring and you aren't on one knee." was the same reply I had been giving all month. When he did get on one knee.

"Now, will you marry me?"

I laughed and told him there was no ring, how could I marry him.

He got a mischievous smile on his face and pulled something out of his pocket. All I saw was glitter and I remember faintly hearing him repeat those words again, to which my first response was

"ARE YOU SERIOUS!? yes, yes yes yes yes."

I know he had more to say after that, but we both honestly don't remember anything that he said while i was tackling him with kisses and hugs and crying and just being an emotional wreck. Somewhere in that he slipped the ring on my finger,

and the rest is history.
