Midnight Photography & Design Giveaway!

Sabra GilbertComment

Hey everyone!!

So I've talked a few times about the business that I've started, Midnight Photography & Design, where I do blog designs & branding for Blogger and Squarespace blogs along with work on taking photos of wonderful people!

This site here is one of my favorite designs so far! And it is one of my first Squarespace sites I designed, but OMG I fell in love!! Squarespace is the way to go! I'll dig into that deeper in January after I take blogging and this business on full time!

One thing that is so important in MPD, and the reason that i got into designing, is to keep my designs affordable for the broke college student who just wants her blog to be pretty.  Because I was that extremely broke college student who just wanted her blog to be pretty. In all honesty, I've barely stepped up from extremely broke to just broke college student.

That's why I offer designs for Blogger, the free blogging site, along with my new found love Squarespace. Because I know what it's like to just want to get out there and start writing, but in no way able to afford anything insanely special. But I also know now that putting that money out front is actually going to help in the long run, because you have to be serious about something that you put a lot of money in, espetially if you don't already have a lot of money to play with.

But today, I want to erase the monetary stress off of another blogger!  At this time, I can't offer a year of Squarespace paid with a design, but I can offer a free blogger or Squarespace design! And if you are thinking of transferring to Squarespace, I offer to help with that as well!!

Branding Board: Becoming A Gilbert

Blog design is something that I have started to truely love and grow in. I don't only want to be doing this for fun, but I would love to start doing it professionally as well. I've done one for a friend (you can see that here), but I also design for myself as well! As you can see the entire design (obviously cause to be reading this you are on my blog! :)), I wanted to share my branding board as well.

I wanted to go for a more professional, yet whimpsical feeling around my blog. It is my release from the stressful world of papers, homework, and housework so I wanted to use relaxing colors in blue and green. The part that I am proudest of at the moment is the catagory buttons. It took so long to get them just right and I couldn't say that I have ever made anything that I am prouder of.

Now, since I am new to all of this, I would love to hear feedback from you guys! My readers! I'm in the process of building a website to hopefully turn this into something that I can do for others on a regular basis. With all of this in the works, I really want to find out how other bloggers like my work and the whole design process to work so that I can start refining the process that I usually go through with myself. I think I'll make a survey to find out in more detail if my process would work for others as well. :)

but for now. . . :D

Do you like the design?
Do you like the format of the branding board?

Blog Design: Making Straight All My Paths

Sabra GilbertComment
Hey everyone! I'm celebrating a super awesome moment in my blogging career right now! I just finished designing and installing the first ever design that I have done for someone else! I've enjoyed doing my own throughout the last two years of blogging and thought it was time to try out my hand at making someone else happy! I did!! Here are the deets on what it looks like!

Here is the syle guide that I used to make the design. It is one of the best ones that I've ever made (so far!!) and I truely loved every second of making this design! I was so excited that most of the elements ended up all being made in one 5 hour setting (One that I maybe should have been studying for final exams during instead!)

Making Straight All My Paths is written by one of my good college friends that I've made while in the Navigators. We just celebrated our 2nd Friendaversery while at the Midwest Fall Confrence, the Weekender! We spend puppy time every Tuesday and truely always seem to have fun! You may recognise her from being one of my models this fall as well!!

So here is the final product!
