About Me

Let me Introduce Myself

Sabra GilbertComment
Hey everyone!!

I thought it had been a while since I re-introduced myself, and I know that there are a lot of newcomers around here!! And I would love to learn more about you guys!! So in the comments today, give a few facts about yourself and if you have a blog, link it for me! :)

Hmmmm, what are some things that you guys might want to know about me. . . .

Well, I started blogging in 2012, my sophomore year of college, mostly because I was incredibly bored with all my science classes needed for a Biology degree and wanted a space where I could use my love for free style writing and photography. My blog back then was titled College.Crazy.Life and honestly, I wish that I had stuck with it instead of changing when I got engaged because I quite enjoyed that name. :) But when I got engaged I thought it would be ridiculously cute to have a marriage blog and made a new blog and got it decked out by a designer and ran along on my merry way.

And I'm about to go through another name change now. Because I'm not actually in love with Becoming a Gilbert anymore. And obviously, I can't go back to College.Crazy.Life because my college career is only 91 days from being over (OMG I literally just looked that up on my countdown and didn't know that I had less than 100 days, FULL ON PANIC MOMENT). So we're going to be going off a familiar spin of my current name, Becoming Sabra Gilbert.

Yep, super excited about that. It's coming with a full on rebranding as well. :)

So other than changing my blog name a million times, and redecorating every few months, what else do I like to do?

Photography has become a strong love for me. And I'm super excited that I've actually gotten tot he point where it is getting pretty good. I mean, a band that I took pictures at there concert last month shared my post all over social media, AND their newsletter! It was pretty exciting.

But basically, blogging, photography, and blog designing have taken over my life. Completely. I might be getting a degree in Biology this December, but the path I'm going to follow for a little bit is trying to take a swing at making these things a full time gig.

After December, there are going to be a lot of transitions in the Gilbert household. We will be searching for our next hometown, hopefully complete with a grad school for Simeon and a zoo or horse ranch for me to work at. Oh and don't forget the apartment with at least two bedrooms, a dishwasher, plenty of natural light, hopefully next to a park and not too far of a commute for Simeon. And hopefully, a den for me to have an office out of the living room!! Right now our options are either in New York, Illinois, Texas, North Carolina, or Colorado. (Hence the extra bedroom, we expect to get to house a lot more visitors when we are so far away).

So for a little while after we graduate and we are waiting to hear back from grad schools, I'm going to be working my butt off to make this space completely awesome! You might start seeing more sponsors on my sidebars, some more sponsored posts, and a lot more affiliate linking. Also maybe some more Midnight Photography & Design shameless plugs. But a girl has got to bring an income in for her family and I hope you guys will support me in that. :)

Well, I guess this became more of an update on my life instead of an introduction post. :) But still, tell me some more about you! If you have any prayer requests, I would love to hear them! If you don't want to share in the comments, you can email me at BecomingAGilbert[at]outlook.com

Cant wait to hear from you all!

Why I Refuse to Niche

Sabra GilbertComment
For as long as I could remember, I have hated being put into one tiny little labeled box. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate to be told that I can only do one thing. Only think about one thing. Only BE one thing. Cause that's the biggest lie ever. In high school, I was actually really lucky that our decently small school didn't have the same kind of clique culture that you think of when you think of high school.

I was perfectly content running around to my AP classes, drama practices, and cheering at games to my hearts content without ever once being labeled as a Nerd, Drama Geek, or Cheerleader. (Well, I was a cheerleader but hey, I was never labeled as if that was the only thing that I could do!) I loved being able to float around doing whatever I wanted without being confined to one thing. I had too many different passions to be only allowed to do one.

And I feel like I'm still the same when it comes to blogging.

It seems like almost every blogger that I love to follow for advise is telling me that I can't have an awesome blog until I pick only one subject to blog about. . . and being a "lifestyle" blogger doesn't count.

Now this is something that I don't understand and personally I just wonder if this is just a trend in blogging right now that suddenly you have to have a narrow lens to be a truly good blogger.

When I started blogging, I started blogging to share my life, my thoughts, and maybe, some helpful tips for others along the way. I love to share the lessons that I've learned while following my passions for blogging, photography, and design. I don't think I could pick just one to continue sharing. I wouldn't feel genuine to suddenly try to limit myself and I'd probably crash and burn as a blog.

I plan on staying a nice, little Lifestyle blog, full of blogging, photography, design, marriage, and anything else that catches my fancy in the future (and you can be sure that puppies and babies are included in that!) And I hope that you'll continue this journey with me as well!

True Confessions: I have Road Rage

Sabra GilbertComment
I love to drive, but I hate driving around other people. There are always people who aren't paying attention or that think that it's fun to do stupid things on the road. I don't like it. I don't like it one bit. And the worst part is (and Simeon can confirm) that I seem to attract the stupid drivers as well. Don't beleive me? I'll give you a few examples.

There have been at least 3 different instances where someone tried to pull into my lane while I was right beside them. All of this has happened while I was in my 1989 Park Avenue (her name is Penny Margret) and the other vehicle was usually a truck with a lift kit or just a really large truck. Now my little Penny Margret is a little tank of a car, but those trucks are big! And there was no side of the road to pull off onto either if the truck hadn't yanked away in one situation. That one was really scary!! Also, random fun fact here, Penny Margret doesn't have a horn. It would be a super easy fix, but Simeon refuses to do it because of my road rage and he knows I would use my horn to express it.

I also really really really hate when people don't follow stop sign rules. If someone is stopped before you, they go first!! Just because you are on the right does NOT mean that you get to go first. That rule only applies if you both stop at the same time. It boggles my mind when someone comes rolling up and just does a punch brake moment even though I was alrady there and stopped and ready to go.

And then there are the people who think they can go over the speed limit when there is no visibility and snow on the ground. I don't care if you have lived in South Dakota your entire life and have driven in worse. Be smart and considerate to the other drivers around you and just be careful!

Ok that is all I had for today. Be Careful. Be Safe. Don't make people mad on the road.

Dear Blogworld.

Sabra GilbertComment
Dear Blogworld,

Hey. Hi. Well, this is awkward. But then again, that’s how I am when I introduce myself to people. I’m awkward. Because I’m awkward, I’m terrible at making friends. In person and in blogworld.

You would think that blogworld would be a million times easier, but no. Cause then it takes even more effort to actually reach out and say hi. You have to type out what you are going to say. And if it doesn’t sound right you erase it a million times. You can perfect every word that you use. It isn’t just blurted and then never to be taken back. So sometimes I'll start a comment, or a post, and get halfway through and be like wow. . . I just sound like an idiot. Why am I sending this out to be seen by the world! What if someone actually sees this? OR!! READS IT! And makes fun of me! That's a pretty easy thing to do on the internet. To point at the screen and laugh. I have an entire Pintrest board that makes me laugh my head off. But I digress. Writing things for the whole world to see can sometimes be harder than walking up to one person and just saying hi and introducing yourself.

Which is actually the whole reason that I'm here. To introduce myself. In Pintrest Pins. Because . . . I am a Pintrest Addict.

I figure that these all describe me in one way or another. :D

Happy Thursday!!
